April Fools Day seemed the perfect time to sit down and enjoy an afternoon cup of tea with the lovely
, author of two excellent newsletters, This Woman’s Work and Sick of this Sh*t. These days it’s hard to know what’s real and what’s a joke - it’s all blending together. Rebecca captured the spirit perfectly in this note:Sadly, as of this writing…we’re still a long way from normality.
Rebecca started Sick of this Sh*t just over a month ago, the day after Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting ambush in the Oval Office.
From her About page:
Join me, an average British suburban housewife and mother as I get to work calling out Felon Trump, his sycophantic sidekicks and his odious oligarchs. I will be providing posts exposing the lunacy of the Felon and his cronies and what it means for us - the ordinary people. I will be using my professional and personal experience to bring hope, positivity and a touch of British wit (ok, sarcasm) to help the lighten the load of living in these uncertain times. Top political commenter I am not - but an angry British lady on a mission to unite and support, I am. Don’t scream into the void, scream with me. Revolution and support from my virtual kitchen table. Kettle is on. Anyone for tea? ☕
We had a great chat talking about the short journey of her newsletter so far, whether the next 4 or so years will calm down at all, how to cope with it mentally, the power of humour and safe spaces, burying our heads in the sands versus being more aware, and much more.
Be sure to check out both of her newsletters. Her latest instalment of Sick of this Sh*t, Contemplatable cadavers, hooray for heroes and British trolling at its best, features zingers like this:
Stephen Miller. Good God. The walking cadaver. Have Republicans taken to grave robbing to find their people? Look closely at his feet and you can still see the tag on his big toe from where they buried him the first time.
We may be a nation of tea loving, queue abiding apologists but nobody trolls quite like the British.
Language learners - take note!
For my language learning audience, can you guess where Rebecca is from based on her accent? (any listeners, for that matter, are free to venture a guess)
I’ve also highlighted some of the lovely vocabulary Rebecca has used. There should be plenty of new words and phrases to add to your collection. You can, of course, follow along with the transcript for additional support.

Who Cares About Ukraine?
[If you’re new here, I cover a wide range of topics and I rarely wade into anything too heavy. I’m breaking that taboo for this post because I have no choice. These thoughts are weighing heavily on my mind and I need to get them out (this was one of my most challenging pieces to write). On a couple of occasions I mention ‘preaching to the converted’ whi…

As I’ve said in my past two posts, I’m no geopolitical expert.
