Trump has been clear that he would end Russia's war on Ukraine by surrendering occupied areas of Ukraine to Russia, and permanently barring Ukraine from seeking NATO membership. That's his path to peace by phone call.
He's also been unambiguous about his feelings toward Gaza.
Yeah, I must admit that I do know that - my thoughts were hopelessly wishful thinking and venting (it's the hope that dies last, which Russians love saying, funnily enough).
I'm not sure much of America really cares about Ukraine. JD Vance speaks for many when he said 'to be honest, I don't care what happens to Ukraine, one way or the other.' That goes for most.
Now might be a good time to sell my Ukrainian apartment, at least recoup some of the investment.
I would say good luck during the next four years USA, but it's all self inflicted. (Eggs won't cheaper in January.)
It's the rest of the world I'm worried about. There's nothing trite about fighting for your life, for your country, and for doing it against all odds. All the while with hundreds of thousands dead.
For some reason, the USA has no heart, and no notion of freedom.
A few, but I don't think those few even understand why, such is their ignorance of the rest of the world. I'm guessing they don't figure the Ukraine war as being one reason for inflation, and handing Ukraine to Putin won't fix anything.
China is probably salivating about Taiwan around now.
I find little to disagree with there. I know a few Americans who are very well informed about the background of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the likely PRC invasion of Taiwan. But I wouldn't say they are common by any means.
Definitely another win for authoritarians everywhere.
What is wrong with people? The same people who threw kiddie tantrums about a few restrictions during a pandemic now embrace a repugnant authoritarian. The irony. 🤦♀️
That's it then - you've convinced me to start plotting some episodes, all it takes is one person to ask for it. And to think, I've been meaning to cut down on my drinking...oh well.
I stayed up and live streamed the UK election in July. I'd planned a lovely midnight picnic and I had a beautiful tequila but I barely touched any of it. Went all the way through till 8 in the morning running on pure glee at all the useless fuckwits losing their seats.
Quick whisky story. My first ever distillery tour was of the Edradour site in Pitlochry, around '06 or '07. At the time it was the smallest distillery in Scotland. At the end of the tour everyone got a sample dram; my then girlfriend and our friends all balked at theirs, so I had six whiskies before lunch and a wonderful afternoon.
I imagine the UK election was a helluva lot more fun than that shitshow the other night.
Great whisky story! Sounds like you definitely had a wonderful afternoon. I’ve got a story from ‘96 about a visit to the Guinness brewery in Dublin that got out of hand, I’ll be sharing that sometime later this month.
If you don't know who he is, I'm telling you, you must google Jim Jeffries, the new Senator from West Virginia. The second I saw him, I thought of 'Weekend at Bernie's!'

It seems that most of America agrees with him.

There are definitely Americans who care about Ukraine. Just not enough it seems.
As for us in Europe, I can only hope the dawning realisation of wartime in our politicians' awareness speeds up.

Today is a great day for authoritarians.

this was so fun! I'd probably watch an episode of Drunk English Lessons and I'm a native speaker...

"Weekend At Bernie's" is one of my favourite movies 😅

I'm definitely googling!
Hilarious and entertaining, and hangover free - what a tonic!
I can't close my eyes to the slaughter of Palestinians.
Ukraine deserves global support. Period.
Putin. He'll be laughing his arse off at Trump's win. (He has zero respect for Trump.)
I have no insight to the Russian people. Perhaps they have no strength left to see alternatives. Putin has them in a vice grip.
It all just makes me very sad.
