You have a very lovely accent 😊

And I prefer saying "autumn" as well 😉 I've pretty much completely adapted to British vocabulary and spelling, but apparently I sound Canadian (despite being American)!

Thank you for the kind compliment. I've been accused of being a Canadian before as well! (btw, a technical question - how was the volume? It seems rather quiet and I'm using a decent microphone)

"Accused" of being Canadian is a nice way to put it 😅

I had to turn it up about 2 notches compared to my usual volume since it was quieter than other audio material I listen to, but it was audible without any problems after doing so 👍

Autumn is a wonderful time for me as well. I can tell you're a teacher in the way you speak! You're very fluent speaking off the cuff. I definitely need to know what was going on with the paranoia about the air conditioners!!

Appreciate the kind words. I do have a tendency to mumble and ramble (as plenty of my students over the years can attest to). I had trouble with the volume of my audio - it seems very quiet, especially compared to yours - your sound quality was so crisp. I bought a decent microphone and I have the settings all the way up and I've got my mouth right next to it but it still seems faint.

As for the A/Cs - it might be a stereotypical Eastern European thing, but so many of my Ukrainian students over the years were terrified that the A/C would make them sick and they swore by it. Some of them, mainly older folk but there are some younger exceptions, also panic over draughts, that they will also make them sick or give them back pain. They'd rather sweat to death in an overheated classroom than allow any type of air flow, and it was always a vocal minority that would win the argument. The same applies to public transport. Right in the thick of summer, there's a nice breeze with the open window, and then some granny gets up to close the window. A colleague who worked in South Korea told me that his students were terrified of what they called 'fan death'. They freaked out anytime he wanted to turn on the fan in the classroom.

Post-processing, my friend :) I've been producing electronic music for 22 years so I have a knack for that kind of thing. Send me a clip of audio and I'll run it through my custom rig and send you what it spits out. I've heard of the fan death phobia thing in South Korea, I didn't realise eastern europe had something kinda like it. I can understand their thinking it makes them sick, just like how people think being in the cold makes them sick, hence we call Rhinovirus, Adenovirus and some types of Coronavirus "the cold" :D

A ha, there's always a catch! I noticed when I recorded it directly in Substack, it was much louder, but there was a clicky sound every few seconds that I couldn't get rid of. Now I just use the standard voice recorder on my laptop. Someone recommended I try riverside.fm. I'll give that a shot, I need to figure this stuff out for myself I think. But thanks, I do appreciate it, let's see how I get on.

I was hoping you'd appreciate it :) I'd love to be there right now, but I will be in Dublin from 24-27 October (I was hoping to extend my trip to make it up north but I won't be able to on this trip. But I do intend to get back sometime in the spring.)
