Hi Flori, thank you, I definitely had my work cut out - you used that expression very well, and because it's not an idiom (it's more of a phrasal verb) you can change the tense. You used it very well, though I would change 'even though' and rewrite it like this: 'I'm delighted to hear that you finished your book and it sounds like you had your work cut out.'

You don't need to prepare so much space, it's not that big! Anyway, you might be adding my book to the trash as well :)
