I’m totally with you Daniel. You can have too much of a good thing. A good dark, icy winter makes the spring and summer much more enjoyable. I savour every moment - once I’ve got over November.

I don't enjoy summer much, except for the one summer I had in Edinburgh. The temperature was perfect, never got higher than 18 or so. Ideal for me, and those long nights where it never got totally dark...such memories (such nostalgia!)

May be that's why I live in Edinburgh - it's basically winter all year

"Embrace winter"... I shall attempt it 😌

Loved your descriptions of your winter travels. I love summer (I hate the cold) which is unfortunate given that we get about 10 days of it

My best summer, weather-wise, was when I was studying in Edinburgh. It was ideal, never got above 18 degrees, the nights were so beautiful and it never got totally dark. I seriously long to go back…

I love winter and the excuse to hibernate! 😻

Winter is my favourite season. I love crisp wintery mornings, wrapping up warm and feeling all cosy. I love the dark nights and the ice cold sheets. Summer is to hot and sticky !

"winter is a time for Gemütlichkeit – a fabulous word roughly translated as ‘snugness, warmth, the feeling that you are accepted’"

Similar to the Danish concept of hygge. Crying shame there's not an English word for such a lovely state of mind.

Winter is totally my scene. I need to visit more cities in winter.

There are so many fantastic words and phrases in other languages that have no English equivalent.

There's a great Russian verb that translates as 'to turn someone into a drunkard.' I don't think English has a similar verb.

Thank you, Daniel. I do like this insight and pithily thought - "You don’t need an excuse to stay indoors"... - feel better now:)

Not just to be different, but here is another proof why autumn is my favorite one - mix off fatige and aftertaste from busy summer, and foretaste of cozy laziness of winter evenings🍁

Glad I was able to make you feel better ☺️

Autumn is actually my favourite season, and one reason is the anticipation of the approaching winter. The “foretaste of cosy laziness” is a lovely way of putting it.

Enjoyed reading this Daniel. And I’d argue Philadelphia is pretty gross in the summer 🤣

I can imagine. Boston is nasty too, so sticky and when you’re downtown in that concrete jungle the air is so thick and heavy. Not fun at all!
