If I were you, I would not go to Trieste in February, or if you do, carry large stones in your pockets. the wind called Bora/Burja (pronounced Boorya) is super strong, and may blow you away.

I got lucky on my trip there in late March - the weather wasn't great (rainy and drizzly) but the Bora barely made an appearance, and I asked a few locals about it and they said it was somewhat unusual. BUT...have a look at this article - this is what initially inspired my idea to go in February, Bora be damned! https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2023/jan/04/rail-route-of-the-month-alps-to-adriatic-vienna-ljubljana-trieste-austria-italy

It is a nice ride, for sure, and Trieste is lovely- I am partial, my maternal grandfather was from a little village just above the castle of Miramare. And the train stops in Ljubljana (place of my birth), which obviously also merits a visit. On a sunny day Trieste is glorious in winter/spring, it is just Bora that is not for the fainthearted.

Trieste was so lovely, I could move there in a heartbeat (if I didn't have a family, I really think I would). I've also made a couple of trips to Ljubljana, including one on the way back from my trip to Trieste. In fact, one of these days I shall be writing more about my trip to Trieste, kind of a follow up to this post.
