A teacher of mine once said that the reason people aren't honest with others and more importantly, dishonest with themselves, is because we are afraid of the consequences of being honest.

I agree with this because there is the possibility of losing people who won't like my honesty. But I don't think I have to worry about that, do I? Because then there will be those people who will appreciate it.

P.S. "To deny honesty is to deny a basic source of strength" @Socrates

I would say that not knowing the answer is similar to put questions, you don't have to be ashamed to question something even if seems to be so obviously to everyone else around you.

PS: so you are far away from finishing that book, you're barely look like Socrate after not shaving for such a long time, or Socrate did not look like a tramp?

I hope I'm not so far from finishing the book! Trust me - I don't look so bad in these pictures, I look worse in real life. I don't want to scary my readers away :)

Ah, there are students as well. As they are groups of people, the decision to lie or not to lie will depend on your general principles and the convenience of the moment, and the worst outcome could be just some passing embarrassment, - so who cares? It's different with your daughter, though. She trusts you by default, would you risk that?

As long as you're asking, - Yes, I think you are a very good parent.

Your daughter's fantasy story wasn't a lie, strictly speaking, - she didn't mean to get any benefit from it, while in your case it was...

I appreciate your stamp of approval on my parenting skills! As for my 'lying' in general...I'm much better now, I don't lie to my students anymore...well, not really...rarely...

Who cares about students, again? I would start the 'not lying' practice with your daughter, while you are still the model, and students, - they'll be fine, unless you lie to them about the Present Perfect, of course!)
