I could write an entire weepy waily post about the lack of books I've received as gifts in my life. I think I've been surrounding myself with the wrong people for way too long!
I think people are just trying to give original gifts, or they want to get you/us someonething "nice", which means more expensive than a book. To be fair, and I think you wrote the exact same thing about yourself, when I need something, I will get it. That makes gift-giving a bit more difficult😅

I agree the best thing to do is buy presents for yourself. Also - immediately unfriend anyone who refuses to appreciate food/drink presents - these are the best to give and receive. Anyone over the age of 18 who refuses to see that is clearly mad.

Your mum’s Yankee swap sounds like what my family play every Christmas ‘naughty Santa’ except we each buy one gift ,no more than £25 , every year we chose a different theme , this years it’s green, we pick the numbers out the hat and then steal what the heck we like, there are rules ! And no one cares if they upset anyone, they are lethal!!!! My kids played a blinder last year, I don’t know how they did it but they some how scammed to get what they wanted and at the same time to make sure I got the Neptune calendar and book on space 🤣🤣🤣 I can’t stand tat, but my daughter loves Tat!! I’m also with you on the songs and I absolutely love east 17 song. Enjoy your Christmas with your family , don’t unsubscribe them 😳🤣😆😆
