Daniel- This article really reminds me of the curious times I’ve explained something to someone, and through that exercise of explaining, I became all the more educated myself. I appreciate the insight here.
Always such a fun read Daniel! I really like that Einstein quote and the rubber duck technique. When is your range of branded ducks /lobsters coming out?! Seriously though, I can see how this would work and is so simple - and necessary - because simply by writing something down, I find that I'm already so familiar with it, others must be too. I you don't question that, at some point, you'll always just assume, which is when you make an 'ass' of yourself or whatever that quote says.
I'm still trying to find a partner to help with the branded duck and lobster range. Strangely, no takes thus far! I'm really bad with the self-discipline to write stuff down, and as you can attest, the process of writing helps consolidate it. Typing is fine too. I always tell students to write down new vocabulary repeatedly, with example sentences, and those that do say it helps them retain more words. I'm just happy to summarise it to myself once or twice and the more I want to remember a particular thing, the more I do it.
I love trying to explain to students "Never assume anything, you'll make an ASS out of U and ME." I can often predict how good of a language learner they are if they can understand that. The correlation is quite amazing.

It's a great phrase. I hope you enjoyed Dublin!
Most adults don't understand the football formations, regardless of how they're explained!
